Mattie Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Hardy, age 77, of May, passed from this earth peacefully on October 27, 2024. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, October 31, from 5 to 7 PM at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, November 1, at 10 AM, at May First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Wolf Valley Cemetery.

Liz was born on January 31, 1947 in Brownwood to Eddie Lee and Ida Artee Murphy. She grew up in May and graduated from May High School. Liz married Larry D. Hardy, the love of her life, on June 8, 1968 at May Church of Christ. Larry and Liz had one precious daughter, Shelly Denise. Liz was a homemaker while Shelly was growing up and later worked as a Correctional Officer at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Thomas R. Havins Unit in Brownwood before retiring.

Liz enjoyed gardening, but most of all she loved being G’Ma to her granddaughter, Morgan. G’Ma was a second mom to Morgan and often referred to Morgan as her pride and joy. Those two were quite a pair. G’Ma loved all of Morgan’s friends and enjoyed watching them dance and cheer, no matter how far she had to travel.

Liz also loved the Lord and her church family. She always wanted to help in any way that she could and she enjoyed sharing her love for the Lord.

Only having one child to call her own, Liz was so very proud of her nieces and nephews. She so enjoyed watching them grow up and following all of their activities that she could.

Liz is survived by her daughter, Shelly Denise Hardy; granddaughter, Morgan Ilgenfritz; great-granddaughter, Iris Gray Danae Martin; sisters, Nelda Barnes and Marcy Richardson, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Hardy; sister, Wilma Lemmons; nephews, Ricky Barnes, Rance Barnes and Kent Lemmons; brothers-in-law, Harvey Barnes, Fred Lemmons and Wesley Richardson, in addition to both of her parents.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
