With great sadness, we announce the passing of Cayla Furry, (63), on October 18, 2024. Cayla was born March 10, 1961 in Monahans, Texas to Wayne and Bertha Furry. She was the youngest of five children. She attended schools in Monahans and Midland. While in Midland she met and married Ricky Surritt and they had one son, Richard. A Memorial Service will be held at Heartland Funeral Home in Early at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 24th with visitation to follow until 8:00 PM.

Cayla came into the world looking for adventure and she always found it. She was a strong personality and gave 100% to everything she did. She loved holidays and went all out, having some of the best Halloween costume parties. She spent lots of time with her son and nephews and was always looking for things to do with them. She was the “fun aunt”. She also liked spending time with her grandkids and making new adventures for them. She was never afraid to try something new including snow skiing, water skiing, sky diving, kayaking, and most recently played the clarinet in the Brownwood New Horizons Band. When Cayla was living in Lake Jackson, she began attending Astros baseball games and became their biggest fan. She and her mom shared this love and spent many hours texting back and forth during the games giving their opinions about what the coaches should be doing and what the refs didn’t see. During the last season, she said they watched 162 games. She was a member of the Early Chamber of Commerce and was a big part of their numerous events. She found another favorite thing to do when she stepped out of her comfort zone and joined the Lyric Theatre. She played in several of their productions, including Joseph, Elf, 9 to 5, Sister Act, Foot Loose and Hee Haw Christmas. She also helped as stage crew, makeup, and concession stand. Her Lyric family was very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her father Wayne Furry, Sister-in-law Sandra Furry, and Brother- in-law Kendall Kent.

Cayla is survived by her son Richard Tibbetts (Malana) of Blanket; Grandson Anthony Tibbetts, his daughters Brianna, Bryleigh, Kenzey, and Bella of Stephenville; Granddaughter Patricia Rowland (Devin) their son Declin of Brownwood; her mother (Bertha Furry) of Blanket, Brothers Don Furry (Lisa) of Bastrop, David Furry (Becky) of Blanket, Sisters Reca Godfrey (Grant), and Kim Kent both of Blanket. She also has numerous nephews, great nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who mourn her loss. Cayla was extremely close to her dogs Miles and Jewel.

The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, in hopes they will finally find a cure for this horrific disease.

Online condolences can be shared with family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
