The Vessel, a juried art exhibit, opens with a free public reception this Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5-7 pm at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk, in downtown Brownwood.

Vessels are containers in which things can be carried and/or moved from one place to another.  Vessels can be a vase, a container ship, boxes and boxcars, baskets, and more.   Exhibit coordinator Donna Lewis says “we wanted to see some fresh interpretations of how vessels provide form, function, and meaning.”

The awards judge is Joe Sheppard,  the owner of Joe Sheppard Designs, providing Full-Service Interior Design and Architectural Services located in Brownwood.

Joe began developing his talent at the age of 10 under the direction of Winona and Gene Pierson of Brownwood studying for 8 years at the Pierson’s Art Studio. He continued his University Studies in Fashion Design and Interior Design at the University of North Texas concluding with a BFA in Interior Design.

Joe’s professional Interior Design and Architectural Services portfolio includes residential and commercial projects in Texas, California, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Tennessee.

The Brownwood Art Association is grateful to all the award sponsors:  Terry Rone, of Evolving Color Interior and Exterior Painting;  Lennon Sellers of  Salon 1601, a full-service salon;  and Scott Stewart of Exclusively Stewart Woodworking.

The Vessel exhibit continues through the end of October.  Regular gallery hours are 2-6 pm, Mon.- Fri.  For more information about the BAA and Art Center activities, follow the BAA on Facebook, visit the website brownwoodart.net, or call 325-641-2916.
