Fred A. Lemmons, age 87, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Brownwood, after a battle with dementia. Fred donated his body to science, so there will be no service. At a later date, there will be a private family graveside burial in Lost Creek Cemetery near May.

Fred was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on November 20, 1936, to Delmer Carver Lemmons and Lola Estelle (Page) Lemmons. Fred was the third child with older siblings Marian and Joe, and younger siblings, Kathleen and Brit. The family moved back to Brownwood in 1943 where Fred grew up going to Austin Avenue Church of Christ and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1955.

Fred served in the Texas National Guard.

Fred learned the construction business from his Daddy, D.C. Lemmons and his Granddaddy, O.V. Lemmons, also of Brownwood. Fred worked most of his career for Sparks, supervising large commercial projects all over Texas, i.e., schools, prisons, parks, etc.

Fred married Wilma Murphy from May in 1958, who passed away in 2003. They adopted a son, David Kent Lemmons, in 1970, who passed away in 2021. Fred married Esther (Faltys) Lemmons in 2004. They resided in Early.

Fred served as both a deacon and an elder at Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood, for many years. He had a heart for evangelism and missions and was a member of the Missions Committee. His passion was for the Navajo Nation in Arizona where he made many trips to the reservation carrying trailer loads full of firewood, and other needed supplies. He attended the annual summer church camp for many years located between Fluted Rock, Sawmill and Fort Defiance, Arizona.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings (Joe Allen Lemmons of Brownwood, Kathleen (Lemmons) Joy of Abilene, and Brit Page Lemmons of Brownwood), his first wife, Wilma (Murphy) Lemmons of Brownwood, and his son, Kent Lemmons of Frisco.

Fred is survived by his wife, Esther (Faltys) Lemmons of Early, his sister, Marian (Lemmons) Rowe of Abilene, his daughter-in-law, Sheila (Prud’homme) Lemmons and his grandchildren, Mary Murphy and Brit Lemmons of Frisco, and many extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Songbird Lodge and Interim Hospice in Brownwood, TX for their excellent and compassionate care for Fred.
