Brownwood sweeps three pool foes at Albany volleyball tournament

Maddi Scott (9) and the Lady Lions (8-9) surpassed their 2023 win total after victories over Albany, Rotan and Coleman Thursday.

ALBANY – The Brownwood Lady Lions swept their pool competition at the Albany volleyball tournament Thursday, and in the process surpassed their 2023 win total.

The Lady Lions (8-9), who finished the 2023 campaign a 7-27 record, started the tournament with a 25-23, 25-23 victory over host Albany.

Aniah Hines paced the offensive attack with 11 kills followed by Aubrie Felux with eight, Miranda Northcutt with four, and Jentry Coalson with one.

Icess Hall distributed 12 assists while Hines chipped in 10.

Maddi Scott and Sara Stubblefield tallied three aces apiece followed by Felux with two, and Hines with one.

On the defensive end, Scott, Hines and Icess Hall registered two digs each, trailed by Inylah Hall, Demayha Hooker, Jakayla Peek, Trinity Roberts, and Northcutt with one apiece.

Brownwood’s second match was a 25-21, 25-15 triumph over Rotan.

Leading the way on the offensive end were Felux with nine kills, Hines with four, Roberts and Inylah Hall with two apiece, and Coalson and Hooker with one each.

Icess Hall served up 11 assists and Coalson chipped in four.

Felux also served a team-high four aces while Roberts and Scott contributed one apiece.

Defensively, Stubblefield was credited with two digs while Felux and Peek each notched one.

At the net, Northcutt and Hooker each recorded a pair of blocks while Roberts tallied one.

In Thursday’s finale, the Lady Lions added a 25-22, 25-15 win over Coleman.

Sparking the offense were Felux with six kills, Northcutt with four, Hines and Roberts with three apiece, and Hooker and Inylah Hall with one each.

Hines led the way with six assists followed by Icess Hall with four and Scott and Hooker with one apiece.

Icess Hall served a team-best six aces along with three from Hines, two each from Felux and Scott, and one from Roberts.

Defensively, Felux, Scott, Stubblefield and Inylah Hall each registered two digs and Roberts was credited with one.

Hines and Hooker both logged a block at the net.

The Lady Lions resume tournament action Saturday morning in the championship bracket.
