Judy Byars Medcalf, 78, of Brownwood, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. Judy lived a vibrant life dedicated to her family, her career, and her love for animals.

For 41 years, Judy enriched the lives of her clients as a skilled hairstylist, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of sitting in her chair. Beyond her professional achievements, Judy was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, finding immense joy in her grandkids and great grandkids. Her passion for animals was well-known, and she was often affectionately scolded for bringing home “just one more dog” in her quest to give each furry friend a loving home.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Mike Medcalf, their son, James Medcalf, her brother, Mike Murphy, and her brother-in-law, Larry Medcalf. She is survived by her daughter, Carey Medcalf of Brownwood; her sisters, Carol Byars Craig of Las Vegas and Marilyn Roberts (Bill Roberts) of Austin; granddaughters, Jessica Medcalf, Lauryn Brown, Adriana Denmon; her grandson, Micheal Standish; and her great-grandchildren, Ryan Standish, Alec Benavides, and Arias Benavides.

Judy cherished every moment spent watching her daughter and granddaughters perform, never missing a recital or Spring Show. Her love and pride in their achievements were evident to all who knew her.

A private memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Corinne T Smith Animal Shelter or an animal shelter of your choice in Judy’s honor.

Judy’s warmth, generosity, and boundless love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
