Lady Lions come up short in pool play at Abilene Bev Ball Classic

Aubrie Felux (3) and the Brownwood girls (1-3) dropped matches to Arlington Pantego Christian, Boerne Champion and Abilene High Friday.

ABILENE – Playing against larger schools Friday, the Brownwood Lady Lions volleyball team dropped all three of its pool matches in straight sets at the Abilene Bev Ball Classic, falling to Arlington Pantego Christian, Boerne Champion and Abilene High.

The Lady Lions started the day with a 25-23, 25-21 setback to Pantego Christian.

Offensively, Hannah Deen logged six kills trailed by Aniah Hines and Aubrie Felux with four each, Demayha Hooker with two and Trinity Roberts and Miranda Northcutt with one each.

Icess Hall dished out seven assists, Hines added six and Hooker chipped in one.

Felux, Hines and Deen each served an ace.

Defensively, Maddi Scott registered four digs followed by Felux with three, Sara Stubblefield and Roberts with two apiece, and Deen, Hines and Hooker with one each.

At the net, Northcutt notched a pair of blocks and Roberts and Hines each tallied one.

Brownwood dropped its next contest to Boerne Champion by a 25-13, 25-21 count.

Hines posted a team-best three kills trailed by two each from Felux and Deen.

Hall tallied four assists and Jentry Coalson chipped in one, while Deen served the only Lady Lion ace.

On the defensive end, Deen contributed five digs followed by Felux with four, Scott with three, Hines and Hall with two each and Stubblefield with one.

Hines, Roberts and Hooker each produced one block.

In the finale against Abilene High, the Lady Lions fell 25-17, 25-18.

Offensively, Northcutt and Hines notched three kills apiece followed by two from Hooker and one each from Deen and Hall.

Hines and Hall were each credited with two assists, while Scott served a pair of aces and Felux added another.

Securing digs were Deen with four, Hines, Felux, Hall and Northcutt with two each, and Scott with one.

Northcutt finished with two blocks and Coalson added one.

The Lady Lions (1-3) will be back in tournament action at 8 a.m. Saturday at Abilene High against a yet to be determined foe.
