The August  “Flora and Fauna” themed exhibit continues at the Brownwood Art Center with a Show and Tell on Bee Benefits this Sat. Aug. 17, from 11 am to 12 noon.  This event is free and open to the public, and families are welcome.  The Art Center is located at 215 Fisk in downtown Brownwood.

Local beekeeper Daniel Graham will talk about the many products and services that honeybees offer humanity.  “Most people think of honey and beeswax, but there are other hive products that are more obscure, like bee pollen and propolis,” according to Graham.  “So I’ll try to give a more complete picture of just how amazing these little creatures are.”

Graham has been beekeeping in Brownwood for over 20 years, and also relocates beehives and teaches beekeeping classes for beginners.  He says that ‘This show and tell is a little different than most talks I give, because I’ll be focusing more on what the bees do, than on beekeepers and beekeeping.”

The talk will conclude with ways for consumers to also be caretakers, so that all bees, not just honeybees, and all pollinators, can maintain healthy populations.  Graham emphasizes that “Everyone can help preserve biodiversity with their purchasing power, and by supporting organizations that protect nature and natural systems.”

For more information about the Art Center and the Brownwood Art Association, follow the BAA on Facebook, visit the website, brownwoodart.org, or call 325-641-2916.  Regular gallery hours are 2-6 pm, Mon.-Fri.
