Artists and nature lovers alike will gather for a Garden Party-inspired fete this Thursday August 1 as the Brownwood Art Association opens its “Flora and Fauna” exhibit at the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood.

The Flora and Fauna show features “artwork inspired by the world of all living and growing things,” according to BAA Exhibit Coordinator Donna Lewis. “This exhibit is all about Nature, portrayed in a wide variety of artistic styles and media by BAA artists.”

In keeping with the Nature theme, the exhibit’s First Thursday opening on August 1 is styled as a Garden Party. First Thursday openings are from 5 to 7, on the first Thursday of each month, at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave. The Flora and Fauna show is on display through August 28.   Admission is free and the public is invited.  Gallery hours are 2-6 pm Mon.-Fri.

The exhibit will also feature two free Saturday demonstrations at the Art Center.   Saturday Aug. 3, Stephanie Young, from Urban Roots in Brownwood, will be giving a Plant Chat from 1;30-2:30.   Her presentation,  “How to create a living still life with houseplants,” will cover the basics of indoor plant care, and demonstrate how to pot a plant.

Saturday Aug. 17, local beekeeper Daniel Graham will present a show and tell for all ages on Bee Benefits from 11 am-12 noon.  He will  share the varied products and services that honeybees offer tr humanity.

Brownwood Art Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to all aspects of art. It offers specialty groups for artists of all ages in all media, including Photography, People Painters, Fiber and Textile Arts, Open Studio, Acrylics, Creative Pen, and a weekly Drum Circle.
