May, Richland Springs, Sidney appear in DCTF preseason Class A rankings

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football on Wednesday revealed in the Class A Division I and Division II preseason Top 10s, and three teams in the BrownwoodNews.com are ranked.

The May Tigers come in at No. 7 in Division I, coming off a 9-4 campaign and trip to the third round of the playoffs. May will be playing its first season under new head coach James Ball in 2024.

The Richland Springs Coyotes, after advancing to the Division II state semifinals last year with a 13-1 record, come in at No. 2 in Division II as they prepare for their second full season under head coach Shawn Rogers.

The Sidney Eagles, fresh off a 7-4 season in 2023, are ranked No. 7 in Division II. The Eagles find themselves in a revamped District 13-A Division II along with a pair of back-to-back district champions in Zephyr and Rising Star.

The rest of the DI Top 10 includes No. 1 Gordon, No. 2 Abbott, No. 3 Westbrook, No. 4 Jonesboro – a district rival of May – No. 5 Whiteface, No. 6 Happy, No. 8 Knox City, No. 9 Newcastle, and No. 10 Buena Vista.

Rounding out the DII Top 10 are No. 1 Oglesby, No. 3 Jayton, No. 4 Klondike, No. 5 Benjamin, No. 6 Iredell, No. 8 Cherokee – a district rival of Richland Springs – No. 9 Whitharral  and No. 10 Follett.

Preseason practices begin Aug. 5 and the opening weekend of the regular season is Aug. 29-31.
