DeLa Express is asking for community input as its hosts an Open House regarding its 690-mile long, 42-inch diameter natural gas transportation pipeline, that will run from the Permian Basin to Louisiana and pass through Brown County.

The informational meeting will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Adams Street Community Center in Brownwood. For those interested who cannot attend the Brownwood meeting, there will also be a meeting held in Santa Anna from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at The Armory in Santa Anna.

According to DeLa Express, the project is designed to address the growing demand for natural gas exports. Natural gas production in the Permian Basin has surged in recent years, straining existing pipeline capacity. The project will safely transport approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day of liquids-rich natural gas production from certain Delaware Basin field within the Permian Basin out of West Texas to demand markets in and around Lake Charles, Louisiana.

According to pipeline-journalist.net, the proposed pipeline would originate in Loving County, Texas, and terminate in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, near Lake Charles. The project includes four lateral supply pipelines within the Permian Basin and a 6.2-mile delivery lateral in Louisiana, with eight new compressor stations planned along the route. Over 95% of the pipeline route would utilize existing utility rights-of-way, minimizing new land disturbance

Open houses are part of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s pre-filing process, according to DeLa Express. The pre-filing process will allow for stakeholder engagement on potential environmental concerns before a formal application for a FERC certificate is submitted. The company is targeting a 2028 in-service date, with a certificate application anticipated for February 2025 and construction starting by June 2026.
