Ruth Harper

Ruth Harper, born on March 21, 1939, in Santa Anna, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2024, in Coleman, Texas at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.

She spent her life dedicated to public service and her family. Ruth served as the City Manager in Big Spring for many years and also contributed her skills to central supply management at Coleman County Medical Center and Eastland Memorial Hospital.

Ruth’s educational journey began in Coleman, culminating in her graduation from Coleman High School in 1957. Her career achievements reflected her commitment to making a difference in her community.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ruth was known for her love of family. She cherished moments spent with her loved ones, finding joy in their company. In quieter times, Ruth found solace tending to her rose garden and birdwatching.

Ruth is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Jean Waldrup of Trinity and Debra Phares of Rotan; one brother, Jerry Campbell, and his wife Elizabeth of Coleman; along with several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father Adolphus Campbell; her mother Dorothy Baker Ewing; her husband, Arval Vanson “Buster” Harper; and one sister, Carilon Sue Ewing.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service celebrating Ruth’s life at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Chad Anders officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Ruth Harper will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to others and the love she shared with those closest to her. May she rest in peace.
