Red withstands late charge from Blue for 69-64 triumph in FCA boys basketball game

Brownwood’s Hayden Proffit (center) finished with 2 points for the Blue, Early’s Kamden Gamblin added 8 points, and fellow Longhorn Andrew Caten (right) came out on the winning end Saturday.

A double-digit second-half lead evaporated, but the Red squad finished the game on a 7-2 run to knock off the Blue in Big County FCA All-Star Festival boys basketball action Saturday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

San Angelo TLCA’s Drew Sherrill earned MVP honors as he finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Red.

Also scoring for the Red team were Merkel’s Kooper Darby (11 points), Knox City’s Devin Guillory (10 points), San Angelo TLCA’s Luis Casillas (9 points), Abilene Cooper’s Jordan Wells (8 points), Breckenridge’s Karter Smalley (6 points), Clyde’s Jarrett Jeffers (4 points), Tolar’s Merrit Imel, Newcastle’s Ty Strawbridge and Forsan’s Seth Richardson (3 points each), and Graham’s Tyson Weaver (2 points).

Other Red contributors included Early’s Andrew Caten, Clyde’s Austin Berry and Haskell’s Niamiah Silvas.

Leading the charge for the Blue squad were Eula’s Clayton Gray with 9 points, Early’s Kamden Gamblin, Huckabay’s Daniel Fragoza and Santo’s Cal Blackmon (8 points each), Abilene Cooper’s Kam Gray (7 points), Cisco’s Brayden Rogers (5 points), Knox City’s Bryson Callaway, Woodson’s Samuel Mills and Abilene Wylie’s Martin Mashall (4 points each), Stephenville’s Eli Hiitola (3 points), and Brownwood’s Hayden Proffitt and Stephenville’s Luke Wilson (2 points each).

Also aiding the Blue team were Cisco’s Cole Thompson, Merkel’s Maddox O’Malley and Cross Plains’ Asher Moses.
