ABILENE – Following a 5 hour and 20 minute weather delay, the Bangs Dragons were finally able to put the finishing touches on their Region I-2A baseball area series sweep of the Ozona Lions with a 17-4 Game 2 victory at Abilene Christian University Saturday night.

In a contest that began at 9:50 p.m., the Dragons (20-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the second, eight in the third and four runs in the fourth frame. Ozona (14-12) scored all four of its runs in the top of the third to trim the deficit to 5-4 at that point.

Bangs drew nine walks, took advantage of four Ozona errors and generated a dozen hits. Zack Ferguson led the charge with three hits and three RBIs, while Brayden Gatlin chipped in two hits and three RBIs. Kenny Cole contributed two hits – including a triple – and a pair of RBIs, Kade Minshew notched a pair of hits and one RBI and Jaxon Duncan finished with one hit and two RBIs. Skylar Minshew tacked on a hit and an RBI, and Hunter Newton tripled.

On the mound, Kade Minshew worked four innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks to secure the victory. Ferguson pitched an inning of perfect relief with one strikeout. Defensively, the Dragons recorded three errors.

With the win, District 7 champion Bangs moves on to the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs where it will face Stamford (22-6-1) – the District 8 champion that defeated Anthony, 4-1 and 13-3, in the area round of the playoffs.
