Willie D. Burks

Willie D. Burks, 75 years old, of Brownwood, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, in Brownwood, Texas. A Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16th, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Brownwood Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 17th, 2024 at 2:00pm also at Brownwood Funeral Home located at 2512 Belle Plain with Minister Ronnie Burks officiating.

Willie D. Burks was born in Tunica, MS to the late Mattie Lou and Johnny Burks. He was the eldest of six but was predeceased by his youngest sister, Shuran Carter of Memphis, TN. In 1973, he joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary Cooper in Ripley, TN. They remained married for 14 years and relocated to Brownwood, Texas. He was a member of New Testament Holliness Church in Bangs, TX and New Beginnings Church in Brownwood, TX. Willie became a minister, and his message was of repentance and reconciliation to Jesus Christ.

After attending Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, TN. Willie worked as a janitor for many years at Lane College in Jackson, TN. He also worked in construction and helped build hotels on the outskirts of Coleman, TX. He also worked for many years at Southpark Development Center in Brownwood, TX. His last place of employment was the Salvation Army where he was recognized as The Volunteer of the Year and was featured in the Brownwood Bulletin local newspaper.

Left to cherish his memory are his four siblings, Ruby Punch of Stratford, TX, Robert Burks (Judy) of Garland, TX, Brenda Burks of Brownwood, TX, Ronnie Burks (Tara) of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services entrusted to Brownwood Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at brownwoodfuneralhome.net.
