Alford Jack Reed, age 89, of May, passed away on April 26, 2024. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 30, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services for Jack will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, May 1 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Jack was born to Alfred and Blanche Reed on May 6, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He joined the United States Army in March of 1957 and served for two years before transferring to the Army National Guard where he received an honorable discharge in November of 1960. Jack married his precious wife, Karen on July 17, 1959 in Clarinda, Iowa and they began their life together. They had four children and then helped to raise two nieces as their own. Jack attended some college courses and was employed by Pulley Freight Lines as the Assistant Superintendent and as a diesel mechanic until the business closed. He was good with his hands and could fix anything. Later, he worked at Ranchland Hills Golf Club until he retired. After retiring, he helped at Good Samaritan Ministries.

Jack’s Catholic faith was important to him even though he was unable to attend mass recently. He had been an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack was known as an upbeat guy with a great personality. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, working on golf carts and tending his garden and trees.

Jack is survived by his wife Karen; children, Jeff Reed and wife Ginny, Dianna Reed, Wyatt Reed, Kimberly Wallace and Stephanie Erskin; siblings, Charles Thomas Reed, Betty Reed, Delores Barker, Loretta Craig, Jim Reed and Sherry Phillips; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jack is preceded in death by both of his parents; his daughter, Teresa Reed and his brother, Marty Reed.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
