Nelda Gay Davis, age 83, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2024 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. She was born November 24, 1940, in Coleman, Texas. The daughter of Ottis Lee Havner and Floy Mae (Dillard) Havner. She married Bob Davis on December 11, 1981, in Lovington, New Mexico.

Nelda graduated from Brownwood High School, she married JL Johnson and they had 2 sons, Jack and Rodney. He worked in the oilfield and she owned and ran a grocery store in Rankin. In 1982, she and her second husband Bob Davis began driving truck cross country together, for fun they enjoyed riding motorcycles. After leaving the road, Nelda earned her BSN degree from Howard Payne University and worked as an RN until she retired at the age of 70. Retirement was spent living in Blanket, Texas, traveling, and loving the many dogs they rescued.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, her husband, Bob, her ex-husband, JL, and son, Jackie Lloyd Johnson.

Nelda is survived by her son, Rodney (Jackie) Johnson of Lubbock, 3 grandchildren, Kayla (Brandon) Freel of Washington, Iowa, Tara (John) Cardona of Saginaw, and Ryan (Davannah) Johnson of Shallowater, and six great-grandchildren. One sister Ruby Hosch of Santa Anna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Step-children, Tammy (Marc) Lajoie, Donald Davis, Beth Ann (Steve) Shook, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and sister-in-law Connie (Davis) Alwill.
