State track meet schedule finalized for Brown County’s 14 entrants

Brownwood freshman Kaya Phillips will compete in the girls 200 meters and as part of the 4×200 relay Thursday, May 2 in Austin.

The schedule for the UIL Track and Field State Championships, slated for Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, has been finalized, and the countdown to the competition has begun for Brown County’s 14 entrants.

On Thursday, Brownwood will compete in the Class 4A portion of the meet as Region I-4A boys long jump champion Ike Hall will hit the track at 10:45 a.m. Hall, the Region I-4A champion in the triple jump, and regional runner-up Morsello Hooker, will test their mettle in that event at 2:45 p.m.

Later Thursday evening, the Lady Lions regional champion 4×200 relay of Icess Hall, Aniah Hines, Kate Tindol and Kaya Phillips will race at 6:25 p.m., while Phillips – the Region I-4A champion in the girls 200 meters – will compete again at 7:30 p.m.

Early will also compete Thursday in the Class 3A portion of the meet as Region I-3A girls shot put runner-up Jamie Vassar sees action at 9 a.m., followed by Region I-3A boys high jump runner-up Camden Myers at 11:30 a.m.

On Saturday, May and Zephyr both leap into the action of the Class A portion of the meet immediately. In the girls long jump, Region III-A runner-up Haley Eason of Zephyr and Region II-A runner-up Kenleigh Williford compete at 9 a.m. Also at 9 a.m., Region II-A girls discus runner-up Amanda Harrell of May – the 2023 state silver medalist – will attempt to bring home another medal.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Region III-A girls pole vault champion Ronni McClain makes her return to state, while at 1 p.m. Eason, the Region III-A girls triple jump champion, competes once more.

Saturday evening, the Lady Tigers regional champion 4×200 relay of Chloe Lord, Jordyn Gerhardt, Ariel Palmer and Williford hit the track at 6:25 p.m., while Region II-A boys 200 meters runner-up Ben Harrell will compete at 7:30 p.m.

Brownwood 

*Boys Long Jump – Ike Hall, 10:45 a.m.

*Boys Triple Jump – Ike Hall and Morsello Hooker, 2:45 p.m.

*Girls 4×200 Relay, 6:25 p.m.

*Girls 200 meters – Kaya Phillips, 7:30 p.m.

Early 

*Girls Discus – Jaime Vassar, 9 a.m.

*Boys High Jump – Camden Myers, 11:30 a.m.
