LUBBOCK – The Brownwood Lions have clinched at least three berths in the UIL Class 4A Track and Field State Championship based on Friday’s performances on the first day of the Region I-4A meet at Lowrey Field.

Leading the charge is Ike Hall, who captured the regional championship in both the boys triple jump (48-4.25) and boys long jump (23.2-75). Hall will be joined in the triple jump in Austin by Morsello Hooker, who came in second (44-4.5).

Sam Kallman is in the mix for the wild card in the boys discus after placing third with a best effort of 151-3. The top third-place performer out of all four regions will join the champion and runners-up from the four regions to complete the nine-team state field.

Kallman actually finished tied for second with Parker Webb of Pampa, but Webb had the better distance on the second-longest throw, thus winning the tiebreaker.

Also Friday, Hooker finished fourth in the long jump with a best leap of 21-10, while Hooker and Hall both withdrew from the high jump.

Lady Lions to compete Friday were Hannah Deen in the high jump, Lyndia Biasillo in the 3200 meters, and Kaya Phillps in the long jump.

Battling injuries throughout the track and field season, Deen – who advanced to state in the high jump during her freshman year – finished seventh in the event Friday with a best effort of 5-0.

Meanwhile, Biasiolli was clocked at 13:21.8 in the two-mile and placed 14th, while Phillips scratched on all three attempts in the long jump.

  • Trae Jones in the boys 110-meter hurdles
  • Braycee Lee in the girls 400 meters

  • Kate Tindol in the girls 200 meters
