LUBBOCK – The Brownwood Lions are headed back to the UIL Class 4A Boys Golf State Tournament, as for the second year in row they placed third at the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course on Tuesday to earn a spot in the 12-team field.

The Lions followed Monday’s 299 with a 309 Tuesday for a 608 composite score, 22 shots better than fourth-place Canyon Randall (630) – the UIL Class 4A boys state champion a year ago – to clinch another trip to Legends Golf Course in Kingsland April 29-30. The Lions led Randall by just eight shots after Monday’s opening round.

Andrews Black won the regional championship with a two-day, 36-hole total of 587, topping regional regional runner-up Bridgeport (588) – which owned a six-stroke lead after the first round – by one shot.

Individually for the Lions, Cobe Walker shot the low round of the day Tuesday with a 75 to go along with his 76 Monday for a 151 tally. Hudson Reagan also finished with a 151 as he closed with a 78 to go with his opening 73. Caleb Modawell and Sir Bubba Jones both contributed 153s as Modawell closed with a 77 after an opening 76, and Jones posted a 79 Tuesday to go with Monday’s 74. Peyton Sharp added a 162 total with rounds of 80 to close after an 82 to start.

Bridgeport’s Collin Moody won the individual championship as he followed Monday’s 67 with a Tuesday 71 for a 138 total.

The two-day, 36-hole Region I-4A girls golf tournament, which features the District 6-4A champion Brownwood Lady Lions, begins Wednesday at Shadow Hills in Lubbock.
