DIAMOND ROUNDUP: Bangs teams notch victories, Longhorns earn first district win

ELDORADO – The Bangs Lady Dragons improved to 14-8 on the season and 6-0 in District 6-2A softball action with a 19-0 road victory over Eldorado Thursday.

Abby Wolf tossed a three-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk.

Offensively, Bangs scored 10 runs in the top of the second inning and nine more in the third.

The Lady Dragons’ 13-hit attack featured three hits and two RBIs from Wolf; three hits from Mariah Ruiz; two and pair of RBIs from Jordan Valdez; two hits from Neeley Bradley; one hit and three RBIs from both Emily Baker Jadyn Miller; one hit and one RBI from Cheyenne Rush; and two RBIs from Mattisyn Taylor.

Bangs Dragons 12, Hamilton 2

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons stayed atop the District 7-2A baseball standings with a 12-2 home victory over Hamilton Thursday night.

Bangs (10-7, 4-1) led 1-0 after one inning, 6-1 after three, 9-2 through four, and scored its final three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Dragons drew 15 walks and logged seven hits – two each by Hunter Crowell and Brayden Gatlin, and one apiece by Zack Ferguson, Kade Minshew and Conner Bible. Crowell collected three RBIs while Minshew recorded two and Ferguson, Gatlin, Bible and Kenny Cole finished with one RBI apiece.

On the mound, Ferguson and Minshew combined to allow two runs on one hit with nine strikeouts and seven walks.

Early Longhorns 6, Eastland 4

EARLY – The Early Longhorns snapped their five-game District 8-3A baseball drought and claimed their first league victory, 6-4 over Eastland Thursday night.

Trailing 4-1 after two innings, the Longhorns (4-13-1, 1-5) closed the gap to 4-3 in the third, evened the score at 4 in the fifth inning, and scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Early mustered just four hits – one each by Jordan Campos, Ethan Pallette, Rohyn Price and Alex Perez – but drew three walks and was aided by four Eastland errors.

On the mound, Pallette went the distance and surrendered one earned run on four hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk.

Eastland 13, Early Lady Horns 0

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns dropped their second District 8-3A softball contest to Eastland Thursday by a 13-0 count.

The Lady Horns (5-16, 2-6) gave up five runs in the first inning and eight more in the fourth.

Offensively, Early registered just three hits – one apiece by Marissa Reedy, Aleeya McCombs and Jamie Vassar.

Early pitchers gave up 13 earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
