ABILENE – The Brownwood Lions continued their dominant reign in 6-4A golf by capturing their third consecutive district team championship, while the Brownwood Lady Lions held on by a single stroke to claim the girls team title Tuesday at Abilene’s Diamondback Golf Course.

The Lions shot a 606 total, following Monday’s opening 308 with a 298 Tuesday for a 70-shot margin of victory over runner-up Glen Rose (676).

Meanwhile, the Lady Lions carded a 376 Monday and followed with a 377 Tuesday for a 753 total, edging out the 754 of Glen Rose, which trailed by seven shots heading into the final round.

Individually, River Jones won a playoff over Stephenville’s Jaci Lane on the second hole after carding a 36-hole total of 167 to earn the girls district championship.

On the boys side, Sir Bubba Jones overtook teammate Hudson Reagan for the district’s top spot as Jones finished with a 147 and Reagan came in with a runner-up 149.

Also competing for the Lions were Caleb Modawell, who was fifth with a 154; Cobe Walker, who was sixth with a 160; and Peyton Sharp and Will Stewardson, who tied for eighth place with 166 totals.

Tristyn Garcia placed fourth for the Lady Lions with a 176 tally followed by London England with a 202 and Riley Morton with a 208.

The Lions will take part in the 36-hole, two-day Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills in Lubbock April 15-16, and the Lady Lions will follow April 17-18.
