Five from Brown County place in Top 10 at state powerlifting meet

ABILENE – Members of the Brownwood Lions, Early Longhorns and Bangs Dragons powerlifting teams competed at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet on Friday and Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center.

On Friday, the Lions finished 18th in the team standings in the Division 2 competition.

Davis Le placed third in the 198-pound weight class with 1,640 pounds lifted – 700 in the squat, 415 in the bench press, and 525 in the deadlift.

Cole Miller came in fifth in the 242s with 1,730 pounds – 675 in the squat, 435 in the bench, and 620 in the deadlift.

Jason Zheng recorded a BO in the 181s.

Meanwhile, the Early Longhorns took part in the Division 3 portion of the meet on Friday, where Brooks Clippinger led the charge in seventh place in the 220s with 1,590 pounds lifted – 600 in the squat, 390 in the bench, and 600 in the deadlift.

Jacob Braun came in 11th in the 275s with a total 1,595 pounds – 635 in the squat, 405 in the bench, and 555 in the deadlift.

Izik Delgado placed 18th in 198s with 1,340 pounds – 500 in the squat, 350 in the bench, and 490 in the deadlift.

Griffin Cheslock recorded a BO in the 181s.

On Saturday, the Bangs Dragons competed in Division 4 where Noah Castillo placed eighth in the 181s with 1,305 pounds lifted – 500 in the squat, 320 in the bench and 425 in the deadlift.

Noah Pin came in the 10th in the 308s with 1,530 pounds lifted – 675 squat, 330 bench and 525 deadlift.

Brody Newton recorded a BO in the Super Heavyweight.
