Austin Wright (7) pitched all seven innings and yielded five hits with five strikeouts and two walks for Brownwood (11-4-1, 1-0), which resumes District 6-4A action Wednesday at Graham.

GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lions completed an undefeated run through the 15th Annual Walker Stallcup Memorial Tournament and pushed their win streak to five games with a 1-0 victory over Wichita Falls Saturday in a rematch of last year’s area playoff series.

The Lions (11-4-1) allowed just two runs in four tournament games and posted three shutouts, including Saturday’s by Austin Wright who gave up only five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in seven complete innings.

Wichita Falls’ greatest scoring threat came in the top of the fifth with runners on the corners with one out. But Wright induced a double play ball to shortstop Antonio Ybarra, who got the Lions out of the inning unscathed.

Brownwood scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the first as Jordyn Nickerson reached on error, then Gavin Brandstetter walked. A double play ball moved Nickerson to third base ahead of a walk by Logan Posey. Nickerson then scored on the back end of a double steal after a wild throw to second during Eli Hill’s at-bat.

Brownwood mustered just two hits – by Brandstetter and Hill – and drew a pair of walks – by Posey and Jack Field. The Lions were aided by three Wichita Falls errors, while Brownwood overcame four miscues of its own.

The Lions are back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday as they resume District 6-4A competition at Graham.
