Austin Wright doubled and scored the first run of the game for Brownwood (9-4-1), which faces Pampa at 3:45 p.m. today and Wichita Falls at 11:15 a.m. Saturday to conclude tournament action.

GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lions notched their second shutout victory of the 15th Annual Walker Stallcup Memorial tournament Friday with a 4-0 triumph over Childress.

The Lions (9-4-1) scored single runs in the third and sixth innings and added two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Brownwood finished with eight hits – two each by Gavin Brandstetter and Antonio Ybarra, and one apiece by David Turner, Logan Posey, Jack Field and Austin Wright.

On the mound, Austin Pittman pitched 5.2 scoreless innings and yielded four hits with three strikeouts and four walks, while Turner tossed 1.1 innings and gave up a hit with two strikeouts.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the third on a lead-off double from Wright, followed by a two-out RBI single to left field by Brandstetter.

The lead increased to 2-0 in the sixth as Turner singled to start the frame, then Eli Hill reached on a dropped third strike with one out. With two on, Field’s RBI bunt single allowed Caleb Nix, running for Turner, to score the second run.

In the seventh, Ybarra led off with a single and Jordyn Nickerson walked ahead on an RBI base hit up the middle by Brandstetter, which scored Ybarra. Turner then laid down a squeeze bunt that brought home Nickerson.

The Lions were slated to face Pampa at 3:45 p.m. today and Wichita Falls at 11:15 a.m. Saturday to conclude tournament action.
