BROCK – For the second consecutive day, the Brownwood Lions baseball team again split its two games at the Brock baseball tournament – first edging Holliday. 4-3, before falling to Brock, 6-4.

In the one-run victory over Holliday, the Lions scored once in the top of the second inning and added three runs in the third. Holliday responded with a run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fifth as the contest ended after six innings due to time limit.

Brownwood chalked up eight hits, including two each from Gavin Brandstetter, Eli Hill and Austin Wright. Jordyn Nickerson added a hit, and Cole Miller doubled for the only extra-base hit. Miller and Hill picked up the RBIs for the Lions.

On the mound, Noah Gonzalez pitched all six innings and yielded three unearned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. The Lions defense committed five errors behind him.

In the two-run loss to Brock, the Lions trailed 6-1 going into their final at-bat in the top of the sixth inning of the time limit contest, where they pushed across three runs.

Brownwood tallied just three hits, including a double by Logan Posey that drove in two runs. Jack Field singled and recorded an RBI, while Wright also notched a base hit.

Brandstetter and Austin Pittman combined to pitch five innings and surrendered two earned runs on six hits with half a dozen strikeouts and a pair of walks. The Brownwood defense finished with six errors in the field.

The Lions (6-4-1) are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday as they open District 6-4A action at Morris Southall Field against the Mineral Wells Rams.
