Lions tumble against Class 5A Abilene High, 9-4

ABILENE – The Brownwood Lions were dealt their second consecutive defeat of the season Tuesday night, dropping a 9-4 decision at Class 5A Abilene High.

The Lions (4-2-1) allowed three runs each in the second, third and fourth innings, while producing three runs of their own in the top of the third and one final run in the fifth inning.

Brownwood tallied seven hits – a triple by Gavin Brandstetter, a double by Logan Posey and singles from Jordyn Nickerson, Cole Miller, Jack Field, Eli Hill and Antonio Ybarra. Posey, Hill and Ybarra each collected an RBI for the Lions.

Pitchers Austin Pittman, Yovani Figueroa, Austin Wright and Miller combined to surrender eight earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Next for the Lions is the Brock tournament, where they face Fort Worth Southwest Christian at 1:30 p.m. and Clyde at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, and Holliday at 1:30 p.m. and Brock at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
