Lila Mares’ bases-loaded walk in the last at-bat proved to be the difference for Brownwood (2-2), which continues tournament action later today.

ABILENE – The Brownwood Lady Lions rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 5-4 victory over the Early Lady Horns in a time-limit contest, their first at the Abilene Icebreaker Tournament Saturday morning.

Trailing 4-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth, Jakayla Peek singled, Maitlyn Esquivel walked and Addison Welch was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Another walk to Carlee Burks brought the Lady Lions within 4-3, Jeniffer Romero then drew a free pass to even the score at 4, and Lila Mares followed with a walk-off bases-loaded walk to propel Brownwood to victory.

Early grabbed a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth with three runs as Sydney Greaves singled to start the frame, Aubrey Greaves walked with one out and Marissa Reedy then singled to load the bases. With two down, Jamie Vasser reached on an error in left field that scored two runs to push the Lady Horns in front. Gabby Leal followed and reached on another miscue in right field for the fourth Early run.

Brownwood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Burks, who reached on an error, later scored on a wild pitch.

Early tied the game at 1 in the top of the second as Aubrey Greaves’ RBI sacrifice fly drove in Sydney Greaves, who reached on an error.

The Lady Lions reclaimed a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the second as an RBI sacrifice fly from Burks plated Peek, who tripled to start the frame.

Brownwood (2-2) finished with just two hits and overcame five errors as Tynlea Wilson gave up three earned runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts and four walks.

The Early (2-8) pitching staff yielded a pair of hits, fanned three and walked six batters.

More information on the Lady Lions’ tournament performance will appear on BrownwoodNews.com later today.
