Playing the first-place teams on both the boys and girls side of District 5-4A soccer, the Brownwood Lady Lions and Lions were kept off the scoreboard in a pair of losses Friday night.

At Gordon Wood Stadium, the Lady Lions dropped a 2-0 decision to undefeated Salado, while in Salado, the Lions fell by a 3-0 count to an Eagles squad that has yet to lose a district game.

Lady Lions head coach Alexis Walker said of her team’s performance, “We did a much better job of holding Salado this time around, it’s progress in the right direction. We made some adjustments to our formation, adding an extra person (Icess Hall) in the midfield to have better control of cutting off their passes through our back line. I think the girls executed this formation excellent. Our back line and our goalkeeper kept us in the game. They gave us an opportunity to be successful, we just couldn’t find the back of the net in our third of the field. Salado is ranked the No. 1 team in 4A for a reason, they always test us and for our team to be able to stay in the game with them is a huge step in the right direction. Although the score wasn’t in our favor, I’m extremely proud of the way the girls handled adversity tonight.”

The Lady Lions are now 12-6-1 on the season and 4-4 in district action, while Salado improved to 21-0 overall and 8-0 in league play.

The Lions slipped to 4-9-1 on the year and 2-6 against league foes, while the Salado boys are 16-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 against the district.

The Lady Lions and Lions are both off Tuesday and resume district action next Friday, with the girls visiting China Spring at 7 p.m. while the boys host the Cougars at the same time.
