The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit posted the following information on Facebook:

Visitors to the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit have chosen Feeding My Ducks by Christine Brisley to receive the 2024 People’s Choice Award.

Brisley, a Brownwood artist, using the impasto technique, created the acrylic painting with a palette knife. This technique was historically used by great artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and Paul Cezanne. Brisley’s painting illustrates a tall treeline through which the viewer can see the subject reaching to feed their ducks in front of a beautiful golden field.

Brisley is a longtime entrant of the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. An additional piece of her artwork, My Herring, was also selected to be a part of this year’s exhibit.

The Bear Necessities by Keith Stinnett of Carlsbad, TX, was selected by students visiting the exhibit to receive the Students’ Choice Award. This large acrylic painting of a bear fishing was also selected as the Juror’s Award during the exhibit’s Feb. 3, 2024 VIP reception and awards ceremony.

Stinnett has also been influenced by Impressionism, “I am inspired by the impressionists’ mastery of color and movement,” explained Stinnett, who has a background in lithographic printmaking which also shaped his painting style. Using layering of hues and colors, Stinnett conveys the beauty of nature and the rushing movement of the water in this painting.

“Congratulations to both Ms. Brisley and Mr. Stinnett on their selection as our 2024 People’s Choice and Students’ Choice Award winners,” said Emily Hutson, chairperson of this year’s exhibit planning committee.

Feeding My Ducks and The Bear Necessities, can be viewed at the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit, at the Depot and Cultural Center in Brownwood, now through February 17.

The 2024 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit offers free admission and features 130 pieces of art, including acrylic and oil paintings, drawings, photography, pastels, sculpture, fiber art, and 3-D pieces from artists across the state of Texas.
