Deidra Gay Burkey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 13, 2024, in Coleman, Texas. Born on August 22, 1963, in Rochester, New York, Deidra’s compassionate nature and loving spirit touched the lives of many.

Deidra dedicated her life to caring for others. With a heart full of kindness, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a nurse aide and cook at the Holiday Hill Nursing Home, providing comfort and support to countless individuals. Prior to that, she shared her creative talents as a skilled beautician, bringing joy and confidence to her clients.

Family was the cornerstone of Deidra’s life. She found immense joy in spending time with her husband, Craig, their beloved son, Aaron and wife Ruth, and her cherished grandchildren: Ashtin Burkey and wife Chaunci, Eavon Burkey, and Zachary Burkey. Her great-grandchild, Kelvin, held a special place in her heart, bringing endless smiles and delight. Deidra also leaves behind two loving sisters, Stephanie Supernault and husband Tom, and Christine Milton King Hall, and brother-in-law, Cory Burkey. Their cherished memories together will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Remembered for her love of cooking, Deidra delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones. Her culinary creations filled the air with tantalizing aromas, and her family eagerly gathered around the table to savor delicious dishes crafted with love.

An ardent music enthusiast, Deidra found solace and inspiration in a diverse range of melodies. Whether she was singing along to soulful tunes or tapping her feet to lively rhythms, music was a constant companion in her life.

In addition to her care for humans, Deidra possessed a deep bond with animals. Her compassionate nature extended to all creatures, and she was known to offer a helping hand to any furry friend in need. Her kindness and empathy touched the lives of both people and animals alike.

Deidra is preceded in death by her parents, Dewayne and Melba Garrett Kesler.

To honor and celebrate Deidra’s life, a memorial service will be held on March 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Burkey family residence, 110 East First Street, Coleman, Texas 76834. Friends and relatives are invited to join, sharing stories, reminiscing, and finding solace in their collective memories of a remarkable woman. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Deidra’s name to an animal shelter or charity of your choice, honoring her unwavering love and compassion for animals.

Deidra Gay Burkey will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her loving spirit, unwavering kindness, and dedication to her family and community. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of her loved ones who have gone before her.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Burkey family by signing the guestbook on Deidra’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Burkey family.
