Long time resident of the Brownwood community, Dorothy Young Allison received the gift of life on July 6, 1928, and the gift of eternal life on January 23, 2024.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Kit Wallace: son, Jay Allison, and wife Jenny Reid Allison. Her family includes grandchildren, Jason Daniell; Jency Allison Weeks and husband Jeremy; Logan Allison; Lucas Allison; Aubrey Allison Kirk and husband Declan: great-grandchildren, Jacey Allison Weeks; Miles and Emory Kirk. She was preceded in death by her parents R.O. and Ruby Young.

Dorothy was born in Dublin where she lived on a farm during her younger years, then moved to Ft. Worth where she graduated from Pascal High School. After WWII in 1945, she moved with her parents to the May/Owens community where she lived for 40 years.

Her life centered on serving others through her work. She worked for Western Union in Ft. Worth, then helped her parents at the Young’s Café which served the Brown County community on Brown Street. After years in the downtown location, the family opened Bill’s Drive-in, next door to their good friends at Underwoods Cafe. Dorothy was the face of Bill’s Drive-in as she greeted everyone with a huge smile and eagerness to serve the community along with the students from Brownwood High School, Howard Payne University, and travelers passing through Brownwood. Many others can still remember Dorothy’s friendliness as she served with a smile at Mexico Inn and greeted shoppers at Walmart.

Several years later when Kohler opened a factory in Brownwood, Dorothy was the first female hired and was the first presented with a perfect attendance award for never missing a day of work in 5 years.

Dorothy lived a healthy 95 years and her love for serving others came from the love of her Lord Jesus whom she faithfully served.
