Mary June Butler, 87, of Coleman, Texas, died Monday, January 22, 2024 at Coleman County Medical Center.

She was born Mary June VanNatter on July 5, 1936 to Howard Franklin VanNatter and Esther Maria Nelson VanNatter in Harts, Lincoln County, West Virginia.  She grew up in West Virginia, where she graduated from high school.  On June 14, 1956, Mary married John Phillip Butler in West Virgina.  With John serving in the military, Mary and John lived in many different places.  She was the office manager for Farm Best Foods and worked at Wal-Mart in West Virginia.  When not working and raising her family, Mary enjoyed working in her garden and participating in her church activities.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After John’s death on June 2, 2013, Mary moved to Houston, Texas and later moved to Coleman, Texas in 2020.

Besides her husband, Mary is preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence VanNatter, Gene VanNatter, Harry VanNatter, Loma VanNatter and one sister, Barbara Green.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, John Butler and wife, Patricia of Coleman, Texas, Theresa Bass of Kingwood, Texas, Scott Dale Butler of West Virginia; two brothers, Thomas VanNatter, Maxwell VanNatter and two sisters, Sedra Brown and Phyllis Horne.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will host a service in West Virginia and Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband in the VanNatter-Ferrell Cemetery in Big Ugly, West Virginia.  Condolences and remembrances can be left for the family on Mary’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Butler family.
