Jo Benson

Jo Benson, age 85, passed away at Prairie Acres Nursing Home in Friona, Texas on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Jo was born on November 17, 1938, in Arch, New Mexico to Clarence Haskew and Ollie Bell McCasland Haskew. At twelve days old, a home fire took the life of her mother, therefore was raised by and aunt and uncle, Everett and Carrie Inge of Portales, New Mexico. Jo grew up and attended school in Portales, New Mexico.

Jo was a well-known artist in her adult life in the Coleman area. She loved to paint any kind of birds as well as beautiful landscapes. Jo loved to dance, picnic, fish at the lake and hunt for pretty rocks and cacti for her flower garden.

Jo was married to Tennie Criswell in Fort Stockton, Texas. Later she was married to James Windell (Dub) Benson of Coleman, Texas. Dub passed away March 28, 2007. On June 10, 2007, Jo was married to Damon Benson in Amarillo, Texas. Damon passed away on June 15, 2015. Amarillo was her home until her health required additional assistance.

Jo is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Criswell of Missouri; granddaughter Darla Weatherley of Denton; stepson Wayne Benson of Amarillo, Texas; and cousin, Bobbie Inge of Portales, New Mexico.

Jo is also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Roberta Cargill; and three brothers, Clayton Haskew, Bill Haskew, and Joe Haskew.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Chad Anders officiating. A private interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
