Noverta Maria Alvarado Lehman passed away in her home in Bangs, Texas on January 8, 2024 at the age of 91. She rests peacefully in heaven with her beloved husband, Otto Arthur Lehman, who died in 2009. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 18, at 2:00 pm, at Grace Lutheran Church in Brownwood.

Born June 5, 1932 in Valley Junction, Texas to Pedro Alvarado and Bertolo Romero, Noverta grew up in and around Conroe, Texas, where she attended school and worked in a local dime store for some years. She spent several years living in Utah before moving to Brownwood, Texas. She worked at the A&P in Brownwood, where she met Arthur (“Art”). He fancied Noverta, who was quite a looker, and asked her if she would like to go have a Coke with him. They married June 10, 1971—that Coke was really good—in a Lutheran church in Conroe. Their daughter Anna was born in 1975.

Noverta and Art were faithful members of the Grace Lutheran Church in Brownwood, where they enjoyed lively fellowship with friends and family. They also enjoyed time with their grandchildren, always feeding them and loving them fiercely.

Noverta always had a smile and was such a kind soul. She had a dry sense of humor and was funny without trying to be, always wanted to make sure that you had eaten, and if company was expected, needed to make sure there was a pitcher of tea and some salsa on hand. Noverta was an excellent cook and baker—folks fought over her coconut cream pie—and she made a mean breakfast.

She and Art traveled extensively by car across the United States—Art wouldn’t fly. They loved to play Mexican dominoes and Skip-Bo, and hosted many a dinner after church for friends. She was a caring and devoted grandparent, and hosted all family holidays, including this past Christmas, which were always filled with laughter and love.

Noverta was preceded in death by her husband Art; brothers, Lewis, Ruven, Johnny, and sister Pat. She is survived by her daughters, Anna Maria Lehman of The Colony, and Teresa Alvarado of Fort Worth; son, Larry Lehman of Bangs; sisters, Margie Lehman of Bangs, and Lupe Mendez of College Station; brothers, Jesse and Joe Alvarado of Houston, Larry Alvarado of Abilene, and Roy Alvarado of Round Rock; grandchildren, Scott Lehman of Pflugerville, Kristine Lehman of Virginia, Taylor Shyann Lehman Davidson and her husband Grant Davidson of Dallas, Aidan Lehman of The Colony, Stepphanie Alvarado of Fort Worth; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a whole gaggle of friends.

They all love and miss her so much. No matter who you were, Noverta always treated you like family.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
