Jeff Meadow gives cannon salute to veterans buried at Greenleaf at a previous DRT Wreaths Across America Day.

The public is invited to lay wreaths on Brown County veterans’ graves at Greenleaf Cemetery tomorrow at 10 a.m.

“Everyone who would like to thank those who fought for our freedom should attend our Wreaths Across America event,” said Mary Lee Bailey Shelton.

Shelton is a member of the Welcome W. Chandler chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The chapter sponsors the Wreaths Across America project at Greenleaf.

“We have 700 wreaths to lay and we welcome volunteers whether they sponsored wreaths or not,” Shelton explained. “It is such a moving experience to thank our Brownwood heroes for their service as you lay a wreath on their headstone.”

The wreath-laying will begin after a short patriotic program beginning at 10 a.m. The Six White Horses equestrian team will post the colors and Jeff Meadow will salute veterans with cannon blasts.

Shelton suggests attendees arrive early and enjoy complimentary Starbucks coffee, hot chocolate and baked goodies.
