LaVerne Martin McClatchy died peacefully in her own home on December 11, 2023 at the age of 98. A lifelong member of the Trickham community, she was born October 1, 1925 to parents Gertrude and James Howell Martin. She married her childhood sweetheart Charley Talmage (Pete) McClatchy Jr. in 1942 and began a life of farming and ranching.

She was always a true southern lady even while chasing cows or shaveling oats. She enjoyed the quite country life, loved sitting out at night watching the stars, walking in the wildflowers, and listening to the birds. Her favorite hobby was reading.

A devoted and loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, she said she was “the last leaf on the tree” having lost her parents, husband, brother Felton Martin and sister Minola McSwain. She is greatly missed by her surviving daughters Merridee McClatchy, Jeanie Dreinhofer and husband Fred, and Linda Meckfessel and husband Robert as well as five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Service will be at the Trickham Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Memorials to the Trickham Cemetery in care of Sherrie Blake, 289 PR 2181, Santa Anna, Texas 76878 would be welcome.
