HOOPS ROUNDUP: Zephyr girls, May boys earn tournament titles

ZEPHYR – The host Zephyr Lady Bulldogs held off the May Lady Tigers for a 39-34 victory Saturday night in the championship game of the Zephyr tournament.

May led 13-7 after one quarter, Zephyr pulled even at 21 at halftime, and the Lady Bulldogs took a 28-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Aliyah Harlan scored 13 points for Zephyr followed byHaley Eason with 12, Avery Williams with eight, and Cali McRee with six.

For May, Jordyn Gerhardt, Mia Musick and Kenleigh Williford tallied eight points apiece followed by Chloe Lord with six and McKenna Landes and Kenlyn King with two points each.

Next for May is a Tuesday trip to the Panther Creek while Zephyr heads to Sidney.

May Tigers 54, Zephyr Bulldogs 40

ZEPHYR – The May Tigers emerged as Zephyr tournament champions Saturday, defeating the host Bulldogs in the final, 54-40.

The Tigers led 9-6 after one quarter. 20-15 at halftime and 35-25 after three periods.

Mah received 21 points from Ben Harrell, 12 from Zack Martin and six from Jackson Lusk.

May and Zephyr will meet in a rematch at 6 p.m. Tuesday in May.

Bangs Lady Dragons 39, Abilene Cooper 33

BRADY – The Bangs Lady Dragons won their final game at the Brady tournament Saturday, knocking off Abilene Cooper by a 39-33 count.

Bangs led 17-13 after one quarter, 26-19 at halftime, and 28-25 heading into the fourth period.

Kasey Solis paced the Bangs effort with 16 points followed by Joey Newton with nine, Raylee Hutchins with seven, Neeley Bradley with three, and Jaylee Valdez and Justice Baker with two points apiece.

The Lady Dragons (8-6) are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they host Hamilton.
