HOOPS ROUNDUP: Lady Dragons tally two wins at Brady; May, Zephyr boys and girls to clash in tourney finals

BRADY – The Bangs Lady Dragons chalked up a pair of victories at the Brady tournament Friday, defeating host Brady, 48-39, and Grape Creek, 51-37.

In the win over Brady, Bangs led 12-11 after one quarter, the game was tied at 24 at halftime, and the Lady Dragons carried a 40-27 edge into the fourth period.

Kasey Solis poured in a team-high 18 points trailed by Joey Newton with 16, Neeley Bradley with eight, Jaylee Valdez with three, Cheyenne Rush with two, and Raylee Hutchins with one point.

Against Grape Creek, the Lady Dragons were in front 13-9 after the first period, 30-22 at intermission, and 38-27 heading into the final quarter.

Newton drained six three-pointers and finished with 18 points followed by Solis with 13, Bradley with 10, Hutchins and Valdez with three apiece, and Rush with two points.

The Lady Dragons (6-5) conclude tournament play Saturday.

May Tigers 60, Cherokee 35

May Tigers 62, Brookesmith 33

ZEPHYR – The May Tigers added two more victories to their season tally Friday at the Zephyr tournament, upending Cherokee, 60-35, and Brookesmith, 62-33.

Against Cherokee, May led 16-5 after one quarter, 33-19 at halftime and 51-24 through three periods.

Zack Martin tallied 16 points followed by Brody Stice and Kaden Watkins with 11 points apiece.

Versus Brookesmith, the Tigers were in front 13-5 after one quarter, 27-7 at the break, and 39-28 heading into the fourth period.

Mikey Scheriger led the way with 17 points followed by 15 from Jackson Lusk and 13 from Ben Harrell.

The Tigers (7-2) slated to face host Zephyr in the tournament championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday.

May Lady Tigers 44, Priddy 25

ZEPHYR – The May Lady Tigers moved to 11-2 on the season with a 44-25 triumph over Priddy Friday at the Zephyr tournament.

May led 11-6 after one quarter, 20-13 at halftime and 31-25 heading to the fourth period, where the Lady Tigers owned a 13-0 scoring edge.

Mia Musick paced the Lady Tigers with 13 points followed by Jordyn Gerhardt and Chloe Lord with 10 each, Kenleigh Williford with nine and McKenna Landes with two points.

May is slated to face host Zephyr in the tournament championship game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Anson 37, Early Lady Horns 29

ANSON – The Early Lady Horns dropped a 37-29 decision to Anson Friday night in their final contest before the start of district competition.

The Lady Horns received 15 points from Jenna Hataway, five from Pearl Sharp, four from Jamie Vassar, three from Gabby Benson and two points from Cassidy Frerichs.

Early (5-7) is next slated to visit Eastland at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the District 8-3A opener for both squads.
