Pennie Jones, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 24, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on May 13, 1954, in Coleman, Texas, Pennie was known for her compassionate heart and unwavering dedication to others.

Pennie’s pursuit of knowledge led her to a career as a Medical Reference Librarian. After graduating Coleman High School in 1972, Pennie obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwestern State University. She then obtained a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Texas in Austin. Pennie worked diligently at Baylor Scott and White in Temple and later at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she touched the lives of countless healthcare professionals and students with her wealth of information and guidance.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Pennie’s legacy resides in her selfless acts of kindness. She began serving others at a young age, working as a candy striper at Overall Morris Hospital in Coleman. Throughout her life, she continued to dedicate her time and energy to making a positive impact in her community. Pennie volunteered as a library aide at Mrs. JAB Miller Library in Coleman and delivered meals on wheels, ensuring that those in need received not only a warm meal but also a caring smile.

Pennie’s devotion extended beyond her professional and volunteer work. She actively participated in the Awana program, becoming a beloved team leader and mentor to countless children. Her willingness to go above and beyond for others, coupled with her genuine love and compassion, left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Pennie is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Clovis Billings.

Pennie’s memory will forever be cherished by her daughter Lori Jones, doting spouse Paul Jones, devoted sister Carla Billings, loving mother Claris Billings, and beloved niece Elizabeth Billings. Her impact on their lives is immeasurable, and her absence will be deeply felt.

A graveside service will be held at the Coleman City Cemetery on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm, where family and friends will gather to honor and bid farewell to Pennie. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Murphy from Trinity Methodist Church.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in memory of Pennie be made to the Coleman Senior Center Meals on Wheels program at 916 S. Concho Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Jones family by signing the guestbook on Pennie’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Jones family.
