Playoff-bound Coleman blanks Bangs, 42-0, in regular season finale

COLEMAN – The Bangs Dragons’ first season under head coach Jason Cole concluded Friday night with a 42-0 loss to the District 5-2A Division I runner-up Coleman Bluecats.

Coleman (7-2, 4-1) scored all its points in the first half as the Bluecats finished with 422 yards of total offense – 225 rushing and 196 passing – and one turnover. Bangs (2-7, 1-4). meanwhile, mustered just 120 yards – 60 through the air and 60 on the ground – with no turnovers.

Bluecat quarterback Braden Torres completed 9 of 11 passes for 183 yards with three touchdowns while also rushing for 91 yards and two more scores. Jadin Jackson caught two passes for 43 yards and a touchdown, Hunter Lackey added two grabs for 42 yards and a score – and rushed for a 58-yard touchdown – and Kelan Sikes hauled in a 30-yard scoring toss. Blaze Hronek led Coleman with three catches for 69 yards.

For the Dragons, Kenny Cole completed 7 of 18 passes for 60 yards and added 20 yards on the ground. Ethan Ethridge rushed for a team-best 31 yards, followed by Skylar Minshew with 6 yards and Hunter Hudnall with 3.

Brayden Gatlin caught two passes for 13 yards while Cason Tidwell (27 yards), Kade Minshew (11 yards), Hunter Newton (7 yards) and Skylar Minshew (2 yards) added receptions.

Bangs’ defense was led by Tidwell (6.5 tackles), Brody Newton (6.5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), Aden Jones (5.5 tackles), Noah Pin (4.5 tackles), Hunter Crowell (4 tackles), Skylar Minshew (2 tackles), Gatlin (2 tackles), Hunter Withers (2 tackles), Kian Kelly (1.5 tackles), Kade Minshew (1 tackle), Jackson Edmisten (1 tackle), Ethridge (1 tackle), Hunter Newton (0.5 tackles) and Damian Hudspeth (0.5 tackles).

Next week, Coleman will face District 4 third seed Alvord (6-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Breckenridge in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
