The Howard Payne University campus is being made ready for Stinger Spectacular, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, October 13-14. Alumni, prospective students and other friends of HPU are invited to attend. The weekend’s festivities include Homecoming, Yellow Jacket Preview and Family Weekend, with the event presented by title sponsor Citizens National Bank.

The Stinger Spectacular Parade, sponsored by Bruner Auto Family, will begin at Brownwood Coliseum on Saturday at 10 a.m., traveling through downtown Brownwood on Center Avenue and on to Fisk Street, where it will pass the HPU campus.

Also on Saturday, special solar eclipse glasses will be available for all attendees to watch the annular solar eclipse, which should be visible from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the ring of fire occurring at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Make plans to arrive early at Gordon Wood Stadium on Saturday for a special skydiving demonstration from Skydive Skylark of Killeen to precede the HPU football game against Austin College. Weather permitting, four skydivers will descend upon the stadium at approximately 1:40 p.m. and deliver the game ball before the game at 2 p.m.

Student band Ripken will play live music during Cobbler on the Campus on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. Band members include HPU students Payton Chumbley, Madison Boggs and Zane Smith.

The HPU Department of Theatre will present “Virtue Is Its Own Reward” by Alice McDonald and Carol Zadnik. The old-fashioned play features over-the-top portrayals of virtue and villainy, audience interaction and lively music. This Homecoming performance is sure to be a treat for all ages. The performances will last approximately one hour. Performances will be on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is closed, but on-site registration in the lobby of the Mabee University Center will be open on Friday from noon until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
