WEATHERFORD – The fall season for the Brownwood High tennis team reached its conclusion Tuesday with a 10-2 loss to Peaster in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Brownwood (10-6) captured a share of its first district championship since 2018, splitting the title with Lampasas and Stephenville. Due to the number of matches won between the three teams, the Lions and Lady Lions entered the playoff as the No. 3 seed from District 6-4A, while Peaster is the 5-4A runner-up.]
“It’s sad that the season has come to and end but it’s been a great one,” said Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “We went 10-6 this year vs. 8-8 last year and we were district champs, but just came up short with the tiebreak system and had to play Peaster in the first round. But these kids competed and though the score may not depict it, we were close in a bunch of those matches. We played them second match and of the year and lost 16-3 but the scores were pretty one sided. This time around, we competed and made them play which goes to show that these kids have improved greatly over the fall. I’m proud of them and now we’ll start preparing for the spring.”
River Prado at the boys No. 1 single spot (6-2, 6-2 over Toby Ellis), and Caleb Dietlin at the boys No. 5 spot (6-3, 6-3 over Jace Rodenburg), notched the only wins for Brownwood before Peaster collected its 10th victory. A total of 19 matches are used to determine winner in team tennis.
