James Calvin Slayton, lovingly known as Jimmy, passed away on September 22, 2023, at the age of 42. Born on February 2, 1981, in Brownwood, TX, Jimmy’s life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence in Coleman, TX.

Jimmy was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife, Jessica Slayton, and a devoted father to his children, Jacob, Chaslyn, Creed, and Gage Slayton; and his daughter, Hope Ogden. He cherished his role as a father and took pride in nurturing and supporting his children. Jimmy was a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren whom he adored so much.

A skilled mechanic, Jimmy found great joy in working with cars and spent many years in the oil fields honing his skills. He had an undeniable passion for collecting cars and could often be found tinkering under the hood or going to the race dirt tracts in Abilene, indulging in his love for racing and the thrill it brought.

Jimmy was a cherished presence in the lives of his siblings. He leaves behind brothers Jerry Petross and wife Shannon, Nathan Goodman and wife Lynzie, Justin Bergman and wife Leslie, Guy Slayton and wife Penny, and sisters Sarah Goodman, Aliea Baker, and Stacey Hamilton. Their bond was unbreakable, and they shared countless cherished memories together. Jimmy will also be remembered and cherished by his mother and adoptive mother, Charlene Goodman and husband Tony and Charlotte Evans. Jimmy was also loved by many nieces and nephews.

The memory of Jimmy’s vibrant spirit and unwavering love will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones. To honor his life, a Memorial Service will be held on October 7, 2023, at Festival Park 3100 Milam, Brownwood, Texas 76834, at 1:30 pm. Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to join in celebrating Jimmy’s life and finding solace in each other’s presence.

In this time of immense grief, let us rally together as a community to support Jessica, Jacob, Chaslyn, Creed, and Gage Slayton. May we offer our condolences, share cherished memories, and provide comfort during this incredibly challenging period.

Jimmy touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Slayton family by signing the guestbook on Jimmy’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Slayton family.
