According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a one-vehicle accident involving a 2005 Toyota, Tundra pickup truck at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 on State Highway 16, 5.4 miles northeast of Comanche, claimed the life of 19-year-old James Tyson Wofford of De Leon.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling south on 16 and was driven off the roadway to the east and traveled a short distance in the ditch before the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle took evasive action steering right toward the roadway. The driver of the vehicle lost control and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at 6:05 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine.

This crash is still under investigation.

Weather conditions were clear, road conditions were dry and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
