Billy Hubert Sawyer Jr. passed from this life to his eternal home on September 1st, 2023. Services are set for Saturday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Pastor Brian Hall will be officiating.

Billy took his last breath here and his first breath in heaven. He left this earth actually on the same day of his mom’s birthday (known affectionately as Neenie) so he got to celebrate with her as well!

He was born in Brownwood, Texas on September 26th, 1961 to Billy Hubert Sawyer Sr. (B.H.) and to Mildred Jeannine Stockard Sawyer. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1980. Billy worked at the Sante Fe Railroad as a section hand driver. He also worked in the oilfield as a derrickhand and at Kohler Company.

Right after high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Burnett and they had one child, Krystin. Later they divorced and he remarried Lisa Scaff. He and Lisa also divorced but have remained very close until his passing.

If you knew him, you loved him. Billy would do anything for anybody and ask for nothing in return. He was a legend on the football field, playing as wide receiver and defensive back for the Brownwood Lions. He also excelled on the track field. Billy could fix anything, loved to fish and loved the Dallas Cowboys. Billy also had a sense of humor, keeping us in stitches.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.H. and Jeannine Sawyer, his grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and also a dear friend Mary McCarty.

Billy is survived by his daughter Krystin Sawyer Herron of Abilene, sister Lesa Sansom and husband Tommy of Brownwood, sister Karen Griffin and husband Jim of Frisco, brother Joe McCluskey and wife Luann of Brownwood, brother Mike Sawyer of Brownwood, grandsons Landyn Herron and Jaxyn Herron, niece Felicia Robertson and husband Michael, nephew Billy Sansom and wife Love Leigh of Stephenville, niece Shannon Jahn and husband Dan of Frisco, niece Cailey Gray and husband Marshall of Lafayette, Louisiana, nephew John Griffin of Frisco, nephew Michael Paul Sawyer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, nephew Jeremiah McCluskey and wife Ha of Brownwood, niece Charity McCluskey of Brownwood and many great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Lisa Scaff Sawyer whom he loved dearly.

Billy will be greatly missed by all. But we can all have hope that one

day we will join him in a heavenly reunion! I’ve heard it said that where there is a goodbye, there is a hello. The Bible teaches that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So, we won’t say “goodbye Billy”……. but “see ya later.”

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
