MARBLE FALLS – The Brownwood JV Lions improved to 2-0 on the season with a 41-0 shutout victory at Marble Falls Thursday evening.

Junior running back Kaleb Grabast ran for more than 180 yards, including a 96-yard touchdown carry in the first quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Dallas Shumaker competed 6 of 8 passes for 130 yards with a pair of scoring tosses while also rushing for a 5-yard touchdown. Shumaker connected with sophomore receiver Grant Gray for 22 yards in the first quarter and sophomore running back Caven Webster for 66 yards to close out the scoring.

Webster scored three different ways – a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and a punt return.

Junior receivers Keedan Brooks and Michael Herrada finished with one reception each along with sophomore Durham Brown.

Sophomore kicker Eliuth Valenciano converted 5 of 6 extra points.

The defense again set the tone, only allowing three first downs in the game, forcing a punt on every possession other than the clock running out in the first half, and recovering a fumble in the first quarter.

The JV Lions have outscored their first two opponents of the season, 75-6, and will be back in action next week traveling to Burnet on Thursday.

Freshman Lions 36, Mineral Wells 6

MINERAL WELLS – The Brownwood Freshman Lions secured their first victory of the season Thursday with a 36-6 road triumph at Mineral Wells.

The Freshman Lions (1-1) scored on the second play from scrimmage with a touchdown pass from Rory McNeese to Conner Cornelius. McNeese converted the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Mineral Wells scored to conclude a 9-minute drive, but the Lions turned away the two-point try to maintain a 7-6 advantage.

Late in the second quarter, the Lions scored on a fourth down conversion as Cornelius rumbled into the end zone and McNeese added the PAT for a 14-6 halftime edge.

Mineral Wells fumbled away its first possession of the second half and Aaron Clevinger scooped up the loose ball and scored a touchdown, with McNeese’s PAT increasing the lead to 21-6.

McNeese then connected with Wyatt Wolf on another touchdown pass and, following a bad snap on the extra point attempt, Wolf ran in the two-point conversion for a 29-6 advantage.

The Lions capped the scoring with a rushing touchdown by McNeese, who added the extra point, in the fourth quarter.
