Brownwood tennis pummels Keene, 17-2, in final match prior to start of district

Ihana Figueroa chalked up a singles win and a doubles victory with Anna Daniel as the Lions and Lady Lions improved to 7-3 ahead of Tuesday’s match at Glen Rose.

GLEN ROSE – In their final match before the start of District 6-4A action, the Brownwood High tennis team cruised to a 17-2 victory over Keene in a neutral site contest Thursday.

Brownwood swept the girls and doubles matches to begin the battle.

Picking up wins for the Lady Lions were the No. 1 tandem of Raylei Hickey and Ashlyn Bundick (6-0, 6-3 over Charlotte Craven and Keelie Ingram), the No. 2 duo of Ihana Figueroa and Anna Daniel (6-0, 6-0 over Jackline Gomez and Jaci Nava) and the No. 3 team of Jazzmyn Sanchez and Makenzie Williams (6-0, 6-0 over Emery Hensley and Daniela Duran).

Securing victories for the Lions were No. 1 River Prado and Tyler Mitchell (6-2, 6-1 over Jonathan Herrera and Raul Zuniga), No. 2 Wesley Goodrich and Eric Smith (6-0, 6-0 over Hugo Ibarra and Guadamuz) and No. 3 Caleb Dietlin and Blake Hutchins (6-0, 6-0 over Erik Pepper and Enjaro Ramirez).

The Lady Lions were also undefeated in six singles matches as those victorious were No. 1 Hickey (6-2, 6-3 over Isabella Castro), No. 2 Bundick (7-5, 6-1 over Craven), No. 3 Figueroa (6-4 over Gomez), No. 4 Daniel (4-6, 6-3, 10-8 over Ingram), No. 5 Sanchez (6-1, 6-3 over Nava), and No. 6 Amy Decchaulene (6-0, 6-2 over Hensley).

The Lions chalked up five more wins in singles competition with victories claimed by No. 1 Prado (6-0, 6-0 over Christian Hensley), No. 2 Mitchell (6-1, 6-2 over Zuniga), No. 4 Smith (6-2, 6-4 over Pepper), No. 5 Trine Baugh (6-0, 6-0 over Ibarra), and No. 6 Andre Martinez (6-0, 6-0 over Ramirez).

Brownwood (7-3) will back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday as it returns to Glen Rose to kick off District 6-4A tennis action against the Tigers and Lady Tigers.
