Jerry Don Sheppard, Sr. age 78, a lifelong resident of Bangs, passed away on August 17, 2023.

Funeral services for Jerry will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel, Terry Garrett officiating. Pallbearers will be Addison Sheppard, Kenneth Duncan, Jason Duncan, Hershel Duncan, Kyle Traweek, Jeff Mobley and Chad Wickson. A private burial will be held after the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, on Friday, August 25, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Jerry was born on April 2, 1945, to Vernon Sheppard and Sarah Louise (Haden) Sheppard in Brownwood. He was a lifelong farmer, pipe-liner and most recently a car-hauler.

Never known for many true hobbies, “front pasture” kind of cattle and hogs were his hobby. It was all about the animals to Jerry. He was known far and wide for both his show pigs and Brangus cattle. More than once over the years, Jerry (or “Pecos” as he was also known) would buy a pig or cow that was worth significantly more than the truck and trailer he was driving. The stories are endless about a cantankerous and ornery man who will be missed by many.

Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry Don Sheppard, Jr. and family (Sonya and Alexandra) of Roswell, New Mexico; brothers, Gene and Waymond Sheppard of Bangs; nephews, Alan Sheppard and family (Kimberley, Bryson and Addison) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Kevin Sheppard and family (Erica, Johnni, Gabbi and Evan) of Three Rivers, Texas. He is also survived by a host of family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. (www.westtexasrehab.org)

Condolences for the family can be made online at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
