Brownwood defeats Levelland, falls to Snyder in tennis twin bill

River Prado won all four of his matches – two singles and two doubles – on Saturday for the Lions and Lady Lions, who are 5-3 on the season.

SNYDER – The Brownwood High tennis team experienced a victory and a defeat Saturday in matches against Snyder and Levelland.

The Lions and Lady Lions chalked up a 17-2 triumph over Levelland, sparked by a perfect record on the girls side and just one loss in boys competition.

In singles action for the Lady Lions, victories were claimed by No. 1 Emma Delgado (6-1, 6-1 over Jasmin Mendoza), No. 2 Raylei Hickey (6-1, 3-2 over Saydee Vargas), No. 3 Claire Meinecke (6-3, 6-2 over Daisy Perez), No. 4 Ashlyn Bundick (6-1, 6-0 over Alexis Sanchez), No. 5 Ihana Figueroa (6-2, 6-4 over Madison Almagier) and No. 6 Anna Daniel (6-4, 6-1 over Daniela Perez).

Securing doubles wins for the Lady Lions were the No. 1 team of Delgado and Bundick (6-2, 6-2 over Medoza and Perez), the No. 2 duo of Hickey and Meinecke (6-3, 6-2 over Almagier and Sanchez) and the No. 3 tandem of Daniel and Zoe Smith (6-3, 6-2 over Hernandez and Perez).

For the Lions, singles victories were claimed by No. 1 River Prado (6-0, 6-1 over Nathan Ellis), No. 2 Tyler Mitchell (3-6, 6-2, 10-8 over Michael Canon), No. 4 Wesley Goodrich (7-5, 6-3 over Brady Houston), No. 5 Eric Smith (6-0, 6-0 over Zack Lopez) and No. 6 Blake Hutchins (6-3, 6-2 over Eber Castillo).

Picking up doubles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Prado and Mitchell (6-4, 6-4 over Ellis and Canon), No. 2 Goodrich and Smith (7-5, 6-3 over Castillo and Ryetin McMahan) and No. 3 Hutchins and Caleb Dietlin (6-2, 6-4 over Houston and Lopez).

Also landing in the win column in matches that didn’t count toward the team total were Trine Baugh and Avery Mair in mixed doubles (6-4, 6-2); Dietlin in boys singles (6-1, 6-1); and Smith in girls singles (6-4, 6-1).

The Lions and Lady Lions also suffered a 12-7 loss at the hands of Snyder Saturday.

Collecting wins were the boys No. 1 doubles team of Prado and Mitchell (7-6[4], 6-4 over Nathan Degani and Ean Terrazas); the girls No. 1 doubles duo of Delgado and Bundick (7-5, 6-4 over Elaina Cross and Chloe Hombrebueno); the No. 3 girls doubles tandem Figueroa and Smith (5-7, 6-4, 10-8 over Elena Hernandez and Jayden Guzman); Prado in the No. 1 boys spot (6-3, 6-2 over Degani); Goodrich in No. 4 boys singles (5-7, 7-6[5], 13-11 over Calvin Hough); Smith in No. 5 boys singles (6-4, 6-4 over John Gregory); and Bundick in No. 4 girls singles (7-5, 6-2 over Heather Villa).

Brownwood is back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday as the Lions and Lady Lions visit San Angelo Lake View.
